Shortly after starting University, I joined the campus radio station (CKMS) and fell in love with their mixing boards and reel-to-reels. I’d also gotten to know Jared, Neb, and Jim of local noise/experimental band Mindsculpture.

When my friend Sean went traveling and left his sampler and drum machine with me, GREENman was born. I released “Ernesto” in May 1993 (see track 11), joined Mindsculpture, co-produced a weekly sketch comedy show, and recorded the songs that became “Plain Talk About Dogs.” Sometime during that process Sean required his equipment back, so I bought a keyboard and sampler and soldiered on.

Every song on this tape required a new series of equipment hookups, as described in the notes throughout this booklet. None of them used multi-tracking or an actual sequencer.

Some songs have been ommitted from this reissue for copyright reasons. I hope you like the remainder, and take them for what they were: the first graspings at the music I would eventually make.
