about

"In 1997, I anticipate the Drabbletails inheriting the earth. They are well-suited to it, and I wish them only the best, because if I didn't they might kick me in the neck."

We, the "Grey Yonder" refugees, loaded our belongings into shopping carts and moved down the street to The Radiator House, which was a much more sane and tranquil place. Sure it was hot (especially the "Abbxcess Bedroom" where I recorded most of this album, in which a block of cheddar cheese would actually melt in the summer), and we lived next door to a crackhouse, but our inner island of tranquility was mostly undisturbed.

This album was a tour of that house and it's one of my favourites. Most songs came in pairs: a legitimate tune in part one, followed by an experimental piece based on the remnants of the tune. Two cover songs ("My Secret Reason" by Lisa Germano and "Another Heart Breaks" by ELO) have been removed from this revisitation, but you can still get a taste of Jeff Lynne on "The True Story of Muffy St. Jacques (edited) (unabridged)", a delightful ditty that appeared on the "Art Sickness Volume 2" cassette compilation.

NOTE: Some of these songs fade into each other. If you download this album as MP3s (instead of a format like FLAC), and your audio player cannot determine gapless playback, then you might hear a brief gap or click between those songs.

credits

released February 1, 1997

Most of these tracks were recorded & mixed under the influence of polyester, velvet, and "slinky material" in the Abbxcess Bedroom, 1996 (except for tracks 3, 4, 7, 8, and 10, recorded at The Grey Yonder, and bits of 5, recorded at CKMS in 1993). All tracks (c) 2019 Dangermuff Enterproses.

All songs written, performed, and mixed by Adam Thornton except 3 (some samples culled by Scott Irving) and 6 (bass by Detlef Burghardt). Track 11 was an abandoned (and never-released) remake of a song composed with Detlef. Track 12 is a new song entirely constructed with outtakes from the Drabbletales master tapes, and it includes an unreleased jam with Detlef on bass.

Everything has been cleaned and remixed from the original 4-track cassettes with the intention of making it sound exactly like the original tape...but better!

Special thanks to those involved: Jon Litchfield, Jim DeJong, Scott Irving, Angela Christelis, and the other Octamen at Generation X (for selling the tapes and providing the movies!)
